Local band blows crowd away

by Presley Hughes, reporter

FAIRHOPE, Ala.– Page and Palette hosted a live music event in the Book Cellar Bar on February 26, at 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The artists of the night were a local band that goes by the name J.E.R.I. consisting of Eden Brown, J.R. Owens and Raul Jim Coman. The band is originally based in Daphne, Alabama, but is now traveling around Baldwin County spreading their love for music.

The Book Cellar Bar, inside Page and Palette, offered complimentary drinks and snacks for guests including wine, charcuterie boards and deviled eggs.

Guests could walk through the book section of the store and browse while waiting for the night  to begin or they could take their seats, drink and eat while waiting. While testing their instruments, the down-to-earth members of the band lightheartedly conversed with guests.

“I’ve actually seen J.E.R.I. play live a couple times these past few years,” said Micheal Thompson, a long term fan of the group. “They’ve always been so entertaining and fun to watch and every time they play, they talk with the crowd and make everyone laugh. It’s always so refreshing to see them perform.”

At a little past 5:30, the remaining guests took their seats and before long, the room was filled to the brim. The band began their first song of the night, a cover of “Black Velvet” originally sung by Alannah Myles. Eden Brown, the lead vocalist of the group, began singing and had the entire room enchanted. Not long after that, guests at the Cellar found themselves singing along.

“I had no idea what tonight was going to be like. I’d heard of J.E.R.I. before and I heard that ‘Black Velvet’ was a known fan favorite, but I’d never seen them in person,” said Lyla Howbard, a Fairhope local. “I was blown away by the range the lead singer had and the guys were great with their guitars. Overall, this has been one of the best events that I’ve gone to at Page and Palette.”

Along went the night and the group sang cover songs like “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash, “Valerie” by Amy Winehouse and of course, the night would not be complete without singing the crowd favorite, “Jolene” by Dolly Parton.

“J.E.R.I. was absolutely amazing. Their instrumental skills were very impressive and their voices melted together and harmonized really well,” said Alex Rios, a local guest. “I’m especially happy since they played ‘Ring of Fire.’ They really did the song justice.”

J.E.R.I. created a space for locals to enjoy an entertaining atmosphere and music with loved ones and, according to the crowd reactions, established a fantastic reputation for themselves. J.E.R.I. has no known gigs coming up.
