Boys and girls tennis won the sectional tournament April 15-16 and advanced to state April 22-23 with a boys’ final score of 61 and girls’ final score of 63 in the 7A class.
“My team and I have been training and putting in the work for weeks to get to sectionals and depending on how hard we work we hope to make it to state,” said Skylar Spinks, senior.
Fairhope won almost all the matches and competed against other 7A schools including Daphne, Mary Montgomery, Davison, Baker and Foley.
“Over this past year my forehand and backhand have improved along with my doubles game and me and my partner are really on point with each other and ready to win,” said Porter Hornigold, senior.
Doubles Partners, Hornigold and Wright Tapscott defeated Daphne players Maddox Marion and Shayne Bodalia with a score of 7-5, 6-4. Hornigold won his single game against Marion with a score of 6-2, 6-0.
“I prepare myself mentally and physically before games by watching tennis and analyzing what patterns and strategies work best for the players and try my best to execute that on the court,” said Emily Grubach, senior.
Grubach won her singles match against Daphne player Abby Jordan with a final score of 6-0, 6-0. She is committed to play tennis for Coastal Alabama in the fall.
Fairhope Tennis players compete today to determine who will advance to Semifinals.
