Students should contribute to the community by seeking volunteer opportunities. Colleges like to see that students are helping out local communities compared to working a job. Volunteering at local businesses or events will likely benefit people more as a person than a job.
“You should definitely volunteer in your community at least once because it is not only fun but fulfilling giving back,” said Jillian Nichols, secretary of Key Club.
If students don’t have a job, volunteering is somewhere to start. By volunteering people can see all the possibilities within helping the community. Not only does volunteering help connect with others, but people may also leave a lasting impression on future generations.
“I get a sense of calmness and satisfaction after helping,” Nichols said. ”I feel like I have just left my mark on my community.”
Students can contribute to the community in many ways. Volunteering is a good start but students can also donate money or goods, support local businesses, and get involved in community events. Most non-profit organizations rely on donations and volunteers.
According to habitatbroward.org Students can contribute to the community through mentorship. “Several people could probably benefit from your knowledge, experience and skills. Chances are there are even people in professions or social circles that would benefit greatly from your help.”
Older students can volunteer with non-profit organizations to teach and help kids study. Students can also help with arts and crafts with younger kids.
Students should seek community opportunities to grow within themselves and help the community grow. Contributing through the community is an act of generosity that may evoke a feeling of fulfillment for the volunteer.
