FAIRHOPE, Ala.—The women of Fairhope rode downtown dressed as witches for the Fourth Annual Witches Ride
benefiting the Humane Society on Thursday, October 24.
The Witches arrived at 6 p.m. to begin the ride, meeting with their not-traditional-themed groups. Some themes included crayons, beetle juice, Dogwood trail maids, fairies, and some men dressed as tacos to support their wives and significant others.
Third-year participant Alison Marlow looks forward to the yearly event.
“It’s just wicked fun!” Marlow said.
Although participating is fun, it’s also for a great cause. Ticket sales go to support the Fairhope Humane Society which works toward ending animal suffering.
“The ride is for a great cause that helps out the Humane Society. Tons of people are out ready to enjoy the ride and have a great time,” said Julie Walker, dressed in traditional witch attire.
The witch ride ended at 9 p.m., but the fun did not end there. The Humane Society hosted a ball for women 21 and
older. At the ball, participants ate from local food vendor trucks and danced to music.
Hope Tendon said the ride is beneficial for the community.
“The Witches’ ride is great for society and the community. It’s a great tradition to keep in Fairhope every year,” Tendon said.
Fairhope ladies said they love the annual ride and hope it continues for many more years. The women spoke of the benefits of bringing the community together and keeping the tradition going to spread the Halloween spirit.
The Fairhope Witches Ride is created by women for women to benefit local animals in need.
