Pensacon to hold 12th annual pop-culture convention

PENSACOLA, Fla. — From Feb. 14 through 16, Pensacon will host its annual multi-genre convention for all audiences with vendors, artists and celebrities spanning pop-culture media at multiple venues in downtown Pensacola.

The convention covers anime, sci-fi, fantasy and comics and is designed to appeal to anyone involved in fandom communities. Volunteers also host panels that serve as informational discussions, workshops or fun interactive experiences.

“It’s going to be a great time. We’ll probably do some special events leading up to Valentine’s Day. Hey, maybe we’ll have a mass proposal,” said Mike Ensley, Pensacon CEO, “We’ve had a wedding before. Why not some proposals?”

This year’s Pensacon is themed “We Love Pensacon,” to reference Valentine’s Day weekend. Multiple celebrities including Erika Henningsen, Black Roman, Amir Talai and Kimiko Glenn from Hazbin Hotel are scheduled to attend. The Space Marines from the 1989 sci-fi film “Aliens,” are also expected to appear. Scott Innes, known for his various primary voice-acting roles in classic cartoons such as Scooby-Doo, The Jetsons, Popeye, The Flintstones and Loony Toons, will feature at the convention to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Scooby-Doo.

Pensacon’s film festival is expected to show 27 short films. Genres from animation to horror, to documentaries will take center stage as Indie producers showcase their work. Over the years, Pensacon has had films submitted from 24 countries, allowing filmmakers worldwide to get a start in the industry. The festival will also be a competition. Best in Show, Jury Selection, Audience Selection and genre-specific awards will be awarded.

Pensacon’s selection of panels, celebrities, artists and vendors will provide an immersive and entertaining experience for pop-culture fans across the Gulf Coast. Friday through Sunday pass tickets are available online for under $100 or for $50 to $60 per day. If you’re a member of a fandom community or an enjoyer of media, go online and get your tickets today for a fun-filled weekend.
