Teens craft pet portraits at Teen Crafternoon

Starting… Sophomore Mathew Walker starts the event with the details of his pet cat. The teens needed to start with the tiny details first and work their way back to the main sections. “It was really hard to understand at first, but after Mrs. Alison explained it, I think I got the hang of it,” Walker said. Different perspectives… Sophomore Mabel Burch uses white to color the lines of her pet cat’s face. Instead of a full body photo, Mabel used a zoomed-in photo of her cat’s face, which created a different perspective. (Mary Higdon)
Shocking discovery!… Eighth grader Savannah Robinson chooses a photo of her pet bearded dragon. She shocked everyone with her favorite reptile pet. (Mary Higdon
Pass the paint… Sophomore Samantha Jensen chooses the first colors of her painting. When the teens chose their color scheme, Allyson Russel encouraged them to choose funky colors to make their paintings pop. “I’ve done glass paintings like this before, but they didn’t turn out. Hopefully, these bright colors will pop through this time,” Jensen said. (Mary Higdon)
Ahead… Freshman Hailey Jackson finishes her painting of her pet dog. Hailey started much earlier than the rest of the teens because she got her photo first. (Mary Higdon)
Eye-catching… Sophomore Ainsley Cook paints her favorite baby, Mazikeen. The cool color scheme helped her painting show off its vibrant and vivid colors. (Mary Higdon)
Staring late… Sophomore Maeve Adkinson arrives late to the event. While everyone else has started painting, Maeve arrived just in time to start the white details on her cat. (Mary Higdon)
Warm colors… Eighth grader Liam Lee layers the red paint on top of the white marker. Being the only with a black and white cat made it harder for him to distinguish the different sections he would paint. (Mary Higdon)
A different approach… Senior Bell Janke shades her dog in blue. Instead of sectioning the animal, Bell chose to use different colors to paint the different areas of her dog’s face. (Mary Higdon)
Finishing up… Eighth grader Blakley Lavender chooses some bright pinks and purples to paint with. The teens needed to leave their paintings at the library to dry overnight. “They can either pick them up sometimes this week, or give them to us to hang up in the kids’ section of the library!!,” Russel said.
