Eastern Shore Repertory Theater’s production of Grease brings an iconic love story to the bluff. For the 12th annual Theater on the Bluff, director Erin Langley captures the attention of Fairhope once again.

Based on the classic 1978 movie, this musical production tells the story of greaser Danny Zuko and transfer student Sandy Dumbowski, who navigate the challenges of their senior year of high school after a summer romance. The electrifying production was filled with fun, nostalgia, and romance, sure to keep adults and children alike entertained.
Sandy and Danny, after spending a romantic summer together, believe that they will never see each other again. However, after a change of plans, Sandy unexpectedly transfers to Rydell High, the very school that Danny goes to. After an awkward encounter in the cafeteria, the two realize they must overcome the social norms of their cliques in order to be together.

Sandy, played by Fairhope senior Charlotte Guilian, brought a show-stopping performance, perfectly embodying her character. Her transition from the shy new girl to finally feeling confident in herself was entertaining to watch. With a strong voice and acting abilities to match, Guilian truly shined on stage.
Robertsdale senior Evan Smith brought an energetic performance to Danny, bringing strong acting and singing to the stage. His dance moves were especially electrifying and kept viewers enthralled in the story.

Even though the stage was outside, viewers were still captivated by the set. Lights and fog machines transformed the bluff into a full theater, almost making you forget where you were. Actors utilized more than just the stage, often employing the front and back area as well. One unforgettable aspect was the use of two real cars, parked right in front of the stage. The real Greased Lightnin’, a 1963 Volvo Amazon, made the show truly unique and memorable.
This musical production certainly did the movie justice, earning a 5/5 in my book. With superb acting, electrifying dance, and moving songs, ESRT transported viewers to Rydell High.
