Local teen actress performs with area company

by Addison Glies, reporter

FAIRHOPE, Ala.-  Sadie Slay, an actress at Bay Area Performing Arts performed Legally Blonde with BAPA on May 9, 10, and 11. Not a first-time actress, Slay has been part of BAPA’s theater productions for four years.

“Going away to New York City was genuinely unforgettable. This theater company has given me so many opportunities I wouldn’t have without it,” Slay said.

Bay Area Performing Arts also has a competition team. This competition team takes its more advanced actresses to perform in various shows. This competitive team puts together shows in a matter of weeks and performs the show in different places against other theater companies.

Slay is also a part of this competitive team. She said this competition team has opened many doors for her and she will continue to participate in these competitions.

“I absolutely love being a part of BAPA. The numerous memories I’ve made with my friends and the opportunities given with this company are incomparable,” Slay said.

Slay looks forward to every show that is yet to come. BAPA does new shows every couple of months, including some summer shows and camps.  These summer camps include dance lessons, as well as junior and teen shows.

BAPA performed Legally Blonde back in 2020 for the first time, its last show before the COVID-19 lock down. According to Slay, performing shows again takes everyone back to the feeling of its very first performance.

“Every time you do a show again, you remember all of the fun times and memories you made when you did it the last time,” Slay said.

Bay Area Performing Arts puts weeks  to months worth of hard work and rehearsals, into making each show even better than the last. Each and every rehearsal leading up to the last counts, same with every role; each person plays a part in putting the show all together. The statement “teamwork makes the dreamwork” really applies when putting on a great show.

“Everyone puts in so much hard work and pushes themselves to the best they can be to put the show all together and make sure it looks fantastic,” Slay said.

Bay Area Performing Arts features a number of shows, and will continue to bring joy to the crowds and put smiles on people’s faces. Slay currently prepares for her next show with the company “Sweeny Todd” to show this coming summer, details on bayareaperformingarts.com.
