Jillian Surla, editor-in-chief
Born in Slidell, Louisiana, and homeschooled for most of her life, senior Jillian Surla thrived as an FHS student when she moved to Alabama and began going to a public high school. As a senior, Surla involves herself in many clubs to keep busy: Key, French, ASL, FBLA, Art, Powering Minds and more. Though she often spends her time at home drawing or reading, she finds herself most comfortable volunteering at the Fairhope Public Library, where she assists young readers who are just as passionate about literature as she is. Writing and literature are not just hobbies to her, however; serving as "The Pirateer"’s Editor-in-Chief for the second year in a row is something she takes pride in, as she is able to share the world she sees with her peers. Cultivating her staffers’ literacy is one of her many joys in life, since English education as a professor is what she wants to pursue in her future. As she winds down and completes her final year of grade school, Surla hopes to leave behind a little imprint in the hearts of her beloved Fairhope community.
