FAIRHOPE, Ala.— The Life South Community Blood Centers will be hosting their annual blood drive on Wednesday, Sept. 24 and Thursday, Sept. 25, inside the Fairhope High School library from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donors must be 16 years of age or older to participate and weigh at least 110 pounds.
The blood supply collected from donors will be used to support blood transfusions in hospitals around the Baldwin County area. In past years, one pint of blood from each donor has helped save three lives.
Key Club director Tricia Hudson said that this was such an amazing opportunity for students to be a part of. “But they need to make sure they come physically prepared.” Hudson and Key Club officers invited Lifesouth to Fairhope to support the organization and provide more volunteer opportunities for students.
Monday, Sept. 22 and Tuesday, Sept. 23, there will be a Life South Representative in the Gym lobby during each lunch wave. Students can meet with this representative to make appointments.
Students who are 16 years old need to come to their appointment with a permission slip signed by a parent or guardian, older donors do not need the permission slip. This form can be found at the Lifesouth table when students schedule an appointment or at https://www.lifesouth.org/what-you-need-to-know/.
It’s recommended that students eat a highly nutritious meal and drink plenty of water before donating. There will also be snacks provided after the donation to keep blood sugar levels stable.
