FAIRHOPE, Ala.– Fairhope High School’s Create for Kids club is now in its second year. Founder and president Jean Pearson held her second meeting on Monday, September 29.
The club gives children in local hospitals kits and cards to encourage and uplift them during their hospital stay.
¨Create for Kids is a club we started to help get our school involved with hospitals and to encourage the kids who don’t have much to look forward to,¨ said Madeline Hart Prues, club vice president.
The cards and kits are made by club members in return for service hours. Currently, there is no requirement to withhold membership in the club for service hours.
¨There are no requirements to be in the club; just anyone who wants to help is welcome, ¨ Prues said.
The cards have encouraging messages and drawings inside. The kits are small, themed boxes and bags that contain coloring sheets, activities, toys, and drawing utensils.

¨The cards and kits give them something to look forward to,” Prues said.
The recent meeting discussed the plans for their t-shirts and how members can begin making cards and kits. Group members voted on the color they wanted the shirt to be and which design they liked best.
¨It’s a way for anybody in our school, no matter how old they are or what grade they’re in, to get involved in our community,¨ Hardman said.
The club is always accepting new members. To join the club, students should contact Pearson or any other club officer.
¨People can begin to come to the meetings and get plugged in with our resources, and start making cards and turn them in with Mrs. Jones,¨ said Percy Jane Hardman, club secretary.
Create for Kids invites anyone interested in joining the club to attend a meeting to learn more about the outreach and service the club provides.
