Fairhope Pirates and Lady Pirates flourish at recent swim meet

FAIRHOPE, Ala.– Swimmers from Baldwin County traveled to the Fairhope Municipal Pool Thursday, Oct. 23, at 5:30 p.m., for the largest capacity meet of the year so far.

Midseason, the floors were packed with participants and observers. The morale was up, as the meets offered chances for the Pirates and Lady Pirates to earn their personal bests.

“It [the pressure] makes us want to strive to do the best that we can,” said Rodrick Knight, junior.

The Fairhope Swim and Dive team is always preparing for meets with their practices that run from Monday to Thursday, their dedication demonstrated by the resulting victories.

The team has been proven to be a top competitor in Baldwin County, as the Pirates’ and Lady Pirates’ overall record consists of the most accumulative points for each four prior home meets. The team took home gold for the preceding Oct. 2, meet with a score of 474.

The Pirates and Lady Pirates supported each other throughout the meet with their words and spirit.

“I want to lead my fellow swimmers to great success,” said Tristan Myrick, senior. “I want to make a lasting positive impact on their time on the swim team.”

The Pirates and Lady Pirates ended the home meet second to their rival, Daphne High School, marking one of the few times they have taken home silver this year.

“It shows how our team can always have room for improvement and individually strive to be better,” said Tatum Carlsrund, junior. “Now we know what to work on.”

The Fairhope Swim and Dive team competes back at the Fairhope Municipal Pool on Oct. 30, their closest upcoming meet.
