Club of America sponsors flag distribution

Club of America members, along with the sponsor, Bryant Baggett, met during study hall on Thursday, Oct. 30, to pass out American flags to classrooms in honor of Veterans Day. They believe it is important to pass out the flags to honor the veterans.

Club of America is Turning Point, the Charlie Kirk organization, at FHS. The purpose of the Club of America is to follow what Charile Kirk fought for: faith, family and freedom. The former name of the club, Young Republicans, sponsored by Kyle Eskridge, recently evolved into Club of America. Eskridge, Baggett, with the help of Baldwin County Board of Education board member Cecil Cristenberry, organized the event.

Lisa Bishop, Woodman of the World representative, provided 110 flags for this campus project. To provide a flag for everyone who wanted one for their classroom, or wanted to replace their old flags.

While preparing to pass out flags to teachers, participants met in the art room to talk about how they plan to pass out flags. They started at the Freshman Academy.

Members worked in pairs, with one person grabbing the flags and the other person grabbing the stands for the flags. Beginning at the Freshman Academy, they asked each teacher if they were interested in a new flag for their classroom.

“We just wanted to make sure everyone who wanted one [flag] had one for their classroom or office, in mind of Veterans Day,” Baggett said.

Baggett emphasized how everyone should have a flag in their classroom in order to celebrate the veterans.

“This service means a lot to me because it reflects who I am, and it means a lot to me to make sure every class has one [flag],” said Matti Hamlin Waycaster, participant.

Waycaster showed happiness by passing out flags to the teachers who wanted one. The teachers accepted the flags with smiles, thanking the club members. They still had flags left to pass out, so they decided to hand out the rest during eighth period.

Some more events Club of America plans in the future include community clean-up projects, voter registration and partnering with different faith and veteran-based groups for future projects.
