Fairhope High Schools hosts annual Veterans Day Program

Fairhope High School hosted the annual Veterans Day program on Nov. 6, honoring veterans in the Fairhope community. 

As veterans arrived, the varsity cheerleaders and members from service clubs greeted them. 

¨It is important to celebrate our veterans because they were brave and served our country even though they didn’t have to,¨ said Percy Jane Hardman, varsity cheerleader.

Flag Folding…Local veterans exhibit a properly folded flag. During the ceremony they demonstrated and explained what each fold meant. (Briar Garner)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Upperclassmen attended the program.  Principal Jon Cardwell allowed students to sit with veterans or family members in attendance. 

Cecil Christenberry, school board member, served as the emcee. Christenberry directed the program through each section. 

The Wind Ensemble joined  the Fairhope High School Choir under the directions of Diane Ham and Meredith Petersyn. Members of the Fairhope Dance Collective danced to the band and choir for a song and showcased a short combination.

Choral performance…Members of the choir prepared pieces in conjunction with the wind ensemble. Choir members practice everyday in preparation for such events like the Veterans day program. (Briar Garner)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

¨We are like a village and do whatever we need to do to get the task done,¨ Ham said.

The choir showcased songs paying  tribute to each branch of the military.

Paul Stroud, a teacher at Fairhope high school, spoke to students about the importance of Veterans Day. 

¨Everyone should have pride in what veterans have done for our country,¨ Stroud said.

Proceeding the program students and faculty served light refreshments in the library for veterans.
