In a town filled with local favorites, Mr. Genes Beans continues to stand out as a place where Fairhope residents gather for comfort and something sweet. The small ice cream shop has built a reputation as a community staple, and one visit makes it clear why customers keep coming back.

Located in the heart of Fairhope, Mr. Gene’s Beans offers a welcoming atmosphere that feels both comforting and lively. The shop’s colorful interior with pictures of customers on the walls, paired with the sound of laughter and good times creates an environment that invites customers to come in and enjoy some ice cream.

After a busy day at school with midterm exams,  my friend LJ and I decided to go to Mr. Genes Beans to enjoy some ice cream and relax. I got one of the most popular menu items, the Fairhope Float. The Fairhope Float definitely lives up to its expectations. The drink combines vanilla frozen yogurt and coffee, topped with whipped cream and a light dust of cinnamon. The balance between the bold coffee and the sweet vanilla is intentional and well executed. Neither element overwhelms the other, and they work together perfectly. The presentation remains simple but appealing, and was served ready to enjoy. 

My friend LJ decided to get a small Krazy Kookie Dough icecream. The cup was filled to the very top, leaving no doubt that the portion size was taken seriously. 

Service plays a large role in the experience, and the welcoming staff adds to the shop’s charm. The employees remained patient and attentive while my friend and I decided what we wanted. Orders were prepared quickly and with a smile on the staff’s faces.

Pricing at Mr. Gene’s Beans remains reasonable, especially when compared to portion size and quality.  A small ice cream costs around $3.79, which feels fair considering how generously the cup was filled. The Fairhope Float cost around $6, which was also reasonable for the portion size of 16 oz, and it being a speciality drink. The cost-to-portion ratio makes the shop both accessible for quick treats.

 Mr. Gene’s Beans is great because it delivers great quality and comfort. From the various menu items, and friendly service to the fair pricing, the shop continues to meet expectations. For locals and visitors alike, it remains a comfort shop for a good sweet treat in downtown Fairhope. Mr. Gene’s Beans get a 5/5 stars from me.
