Rock and Roll Sushi delivers fun twist on Japanese food

For those who enjoy classic rock and Japanese food, Rock and Roll Sushi is the place. Combining classic music and delectable food this restaurant promises a good dining experience for all.

On Wednesday evening, a couple of friends and I went to a movie at AMC theatres in Daphne, and we decided to go eat afterwards. After much consideration, we decided on Rock and Roll Sushi, a decently reputable restaurant. When we arrived, a friendly host greeted us. He told us to sit wherever we would like and that someone would be with us shortly. As we sat down I noticed a TV with rock music videos playing, matching the theme of the restaurant. The comfy seats and laid back music created a relaxing atmosphere where my friends and I could enjoy each other’s company at ease. However, some of the lights were a little bright and made me very tired.

After thoroughly looking through the menu, I ordered a Rainbow and Shrimp Tempura roll. Our server waited patiently as my friends and I made our final decisions.

Rolled and ready… The smell of cream cheese and fresh rice wafts through the air enticing customers to order the same dish. The crunchy crab and creamy cheese work together to create a perfectly balanced and delicious taste, inviting me to continue eating. (Lucy McIntosh)

When my dish arrived about 15 minutes later I was pleasantly surprised by the big portion of food. I was  hungry and couldn’t wait to eat. My food was absolutely delicious. The rainbow roll with raw tuna, salmon and cream cheese worked together to perfectly create a balanced taste where the cream cheese did not overpower the fish. The shrimp tempura roll with its crunchy shrimp tempura, crab stick, cucumber and avocado topped with eel sauce was the perfect in between sweet and savory with a little crunch. Personally the shrimp tempura was my favorite, but the rainbow roll definitely came in a close second.

My friends and I truly enjoyed our dishes and our requests to add or take away components of the dishes were perfectly executed by the chef. We did not have anywhere else we needed to be after eating, but the service was still very quick and efficient.

As Rock and Roll Sushi is a franchise restaurant, I would say the prices are reasonable. The food is a little expensive, but the portion sizes are more than enough. If I had not been so hungry, I most likely would have gotten a to-go box.

My Rainbow roll was $10.99 which was reasonable because it was a specialty roll. My shrimp tempura roll was $8.99, which was the perfect price due to the quality as well as the portion size. The portion sizes are just right for anyone wanting a bigger meal, but also wanting to experience a casual, friendly atmosphere.

In summary, my friends and I definitely chose the right place for our night out. The friendly and welcoming environment allowed us to enjoy each other’s company at ease. Overall, this restaurant scores a 4/5 from me.
