FAIRHOPE, Ala.– Friday, Jan. 30, the National Spanish Honor Society inducted new members during its ceremony in the Blackbox for Spanish III and IV students who applied and maintained a B average.
“It feels really good to be inducted, and all of the extra hours studying after school trying to maintain my grade were worth it,” said Anna Britten Stejskal, Spanish Honor Society member.
Spanish III and IV teacher Sarah Holt commenced the ceremony by welcoming parents and congratulating students on their successes. She shared the importance of this chapter beyond the classroom.
“One of the main missions is to promote the learning of another language and how that can help you build friendships outside of the classroom with other cultures, and also to promote your culture as an American student,” Holt said.
National Spanish Honor Society president Darwin Hickey then led the ceremony, reading the poem and lighting the candle that symbolizes their inspiration.
“Our mother candle serves us each year, and it currently, and will always, represent inspiration,” said Jessi Dade, Vice President.
Once the candle was lit, students signed their names on the member registration and received their certificates and honor cords.
“The highlight was being able to recognize my students and all of their hard work coming together by them getting their certificates and honor cords,” Holt said.
To celebrate their induction, students enjoyed Los Tacos.
