MOBILE, Ala.- On Wednesday, April 1, Fairhope High School juniors toured the University of South Alabama (USA). Students chose between the College of Engineering and College of Environmental and Marine Sciences or College of Allied Health and College of Education.
After a complimentary Chick-fil-A breakfast, students heard presentations about what it’s like to be a Jaguar. The tour included stops at the recreational center, engineering labs and nursing buildings. Students saw equipment used by college students such as a wave simulator and medical dummies. They participated in pop quizzes to test their knowledge.

Toward the end of the tour, students experienced the campus dining hall. The dining hall offered fried chicken, pizza, waffles and a soft serve machine. After lunch, students toured the dorms along with the Student Recreation and Wellness Center, which offered activities such as a rock climbing wall, basketball court and racquetball courts.
Juniors got a feel of the social side of college. “I’m really open minded when it comes to touring colleges. This trip helped me get an idea of what it was like being a student on campus,” said Addison Glies, junior. “I really enjoyed my time here.”
The field trip was a part of USA’s “Jag Days” program, encouraging students to attend the college. Tatum Carlsrud toured the College of Engineering and College of Environmental and Marine Sciences. “The trip has helped me realize what I’m looking for when touring colleges,” Carlsrud said.
In the end, students went to the football field where they met the school mascots, Southpaw and Miss Pawla.
