Fairhope Wrestling shows support for their team

by Riley Wootten, reporter

FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Fairhope Wrestling put in a good effort at the home tri-meet on November 16, yet did not come out on top against Spanish Fort, Foley and Thompson High School. Even still, their team camaraderie carried them through the competition as they supported their teammates.

The final scores from each match placed Foley at 48 against Fairhope at 30, Spanish Fort at 58 against Fairhope at 24 and Thompson at 77 against Fairhope at 6.

“Wrestling is unlike any other sport, you do not have others to back you up, it’s just you out there, and whatever happens is determined by you and the support of your team on the sidelines,” said Justin Carlson, junior wrestler.

Wrestlers kept their heads up during the meet and did not lose their spirit. They showed sportsmanship and how a team supports one another.

“During practice, we as a team help each other work harder and practice more moves,” said Lawson Landry, sophomore wrestler.

George Kunz is a freshman on the team. He said wrestling may be an individual sport but with help from each other, they continue to grow as a team.

“I show support for my teammates by staying and watching them in all of their matches and encouraging them.”

No matter the score these wrestlers continue to stick around and cheer on their teammates. This teamwork is seen throughout the crowd and community.

“This is a great group of boys, they work together and help each other [and others] out, and I think that’s what makes a great team,” said Josh Howell, assistant principal.

Fairhope Wrestling is set to match Foley on November 28, and Spanish Fort again on December 5. This team continues to show growth and improvement from hard work. Tickets sell through GoFan for $8.
