FAIRHOPE, Ala.- On Feb. 26, Pirate Baseball took on the UMS-Wright Bulldogs at Volanta Park and secured the win to even out their 2-2 win-loss-ratio.
The Pirates got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after a single by Alex Herington and Cooper Bell grounded into fielder’s choice, each scoring one run. UMS-Wright tied the game at the top of the second.
“I could’ve played better, I’m aiming to play more aggressively in our next game and help my team out some more,” Herington said.
In the top of the third, UMS-Wright broke the tie, scoring one run and a balk which extended the lead to 4-2. The Pirates had a strong comeback in the fourth inning scoring 8 runs. Axel Hall walked and got to second base, then advanced to home. Bryon Martin stole second, and advanced to home on Lance Wade’s single. That inning saw two stolen bases by the Pirates.

“All around great come back with the guys, after going down 4-2 we let them have hope for too long. We shut it down at the bottom of the fourth by playing our game and passing it to the next guy to just keep it going,” Wade said
The team maintained the lead in the fifth inning to finish out the game with a win 12-4.
“I feel like we played well, we had to use a lot of players in different positions and we adapted well,” said Philip Hunter, head coach.
The Pirates played again Saturday, Feb. 28, versus Tuscaloosa County which resulted in a loss of 12-7.
