On Thursday, Nov. 13, families and friends met at Fairhope High School in front of the Pirate to rally for Fairhope’s football team in their playoff game against number 1 seed, Central Phenix.
The school held the event to celebrate making it to the second round of the playoffs.
Senior Lawson Landry said it means a lot to him to see so many people come out to support his team and their successes.
“At the beginning of the season we set a goal to win a playoff game and as for the team we made history because we were the first team in 11 years and in Coach [Timothy] Carter’s career at Fairhope to win a play off game,” Landry said.
As families arrived, they congratulated players, ordered from food trucks and listened to entertainment from Michael Griffith’s guitar class. The guitar students presented some classic hits and songs from their recent show “The Beatles.”

Griffith said his students worked on short notice all week to prepare for this showcase. “Its really a team effort. I helped guide them at first but they did such a great job.”
After entertainment, football players and cheerleaders ran out to their fight song.
Cheerleaders stood in front of the players and led the crowd in classic cheers like “Rock with the Gold and Jam with the Blue” and “Pirate House.”
Carter spoke to the community on how well his players have led each other and the impact their character has on everyone around them.
“Nothing is more true than when you push each other and we create a family atmosphere,” Carter said.
At the conclusion of the pep rally Coach Brett Horne led the crowd in his traditional spirit chants.

Seniors Wright Wilcoxon and Will Cooper said a few words to encourage the community to come out to support their team.
In the game, the Pirates fell short 34-15, but finished the season with a winning record of 8-4.
