Fairhope JV girls basketball falls to Gulf Shores

FAIRHOPE, Ala.- Tuesday, December 2, the Junior Varsity Lady Pirates basketball team held their own, but eventually lost to the Gulf Shores Dolphins in a heated game 44-43. 

After some technical difficulties with the scoreboard, the Lady Pirates came out strong in the first and second quarters, ending the first half 21-17.

Practicing strategy is imperative to head coach Gabrielle Gilson.

“We do a lot of breakdown drills at practice that really focus on our offense and defense. We also practice against scouting teams,” Gilson said.

The JV girls worked together with ease as they maintained the lead until the fourth quarter. The Lady Dolphins scored 4 unanswered points pushing them into the lead 43-40. Making one of two free throws gave them end-of-game leverage with 44 on the board and the Lady Dolphins only one more possession. Freshman Zoe Martin [10] hit a 3-point bomb at the last second, making the final score 44-43.

The JV Lady Pirates play again on December 4, at Mobile Christian School. Tip-off is at 4:30.
