Fairhope Lady Pirates to play in tournament next weekend

FAIRHOPE, Ala. (February 12, 2025)- Lady Pirates Softball will participate in a tournament in Foley on Feb. 20 and 21.

The tournament will begin the Lady Pirates season with a start time of 2:15 p.m against Foley High School at Foley Sport Complex. The team will then go on to play Tate High School at 5:15 p.m.

“Our program goal is to work to be the best teammate we can be and to prepare them to be strong, driven future leaders,” said Trevor Powell, head coach. “As a team the goal is always to make it to the state tournament with smaller goals along the way like hosting area, winning area and being the regional [champions].” Fairhope came up short in state playoffs last year.

The Lady Pirates began with pre-season joint practices between JV and Varsity, but eventually split up to address certain skills that needed to be improved on. Multiple players return from last season for Powell’s sixth year as head coach.

“My perspective of the game hasn’t changed, but the way I coach is very different. As a coach, you have to change with the times,” Powell said.

First regular game is away on Feb. 26, at 7 p.m against Baldwin County Bears. If you have a love for softball and would like to support your high school team, join the Lady Pirates on Feb. 20 and 21 at 2:15 p.m.
